ANTI-CITY

PROGRAM:

Through consideration of external climatic factors and material selection, design a self-sustaining habitable sculpture that will stand the test of time, such that a family of 4 may reside and maintain it for several generations, and it may be an unparalleled mark of remote design installation. The sculpture should be embedded in the landscape of its surroundings such that in a thousand years it will still be standing to hopefully invoke curiosity and marvel for future generations of man or other worldly beings to perceive.

Its survival will rely on the test of humanity and the embrace of duty, bringing into question the order in which we value purpose on both a personal level and a level outside of oneself. Is the desire to leave something for future generations to enjoy enough of a motivation for us to see it through? Or will we perpetually be unsatisfied with what we are given such that we ultimately fail the test of responsibility.

The program is to be a reflection of our moral position with the earth and design expectation in urban settings. we were given responsibility over a possession of great value and ultimately neglected accountability to maintain it. Now that we have an opportunity to correct these mistakes, whether we decide to do so comes down town to how much we care. This project will ultimately be a social experiment on the observance of duty, the essence of human nature, and the principles of expectation.
